Macbook Air battery not charging when connected

Did you have Apple or an AASP perform the battery replacement or did you install a third party battery? If Apple or an AASP performed the battery replacement, then take the laptop back to them to fix the problem because you have a 90 part/repair warranty.

If you installed a third party battery yourself, then with the 2013 - 2017 MBAirs, make sure the I/O Flex Cable is fully seated on both the I/O Board and the Logic Board. If this cable connection is loose it will affect battery charging. Unfortunately the quality of third party Lithium batteries is extremely poor even when purchased from a respected vendor.

There are all sorts of possibilities for charging issues here. Not knowing the history of this system and not being able to actually see it first hand makes it very hard to narrow it down.

The fan constantly running means there is a hardware issue of some sort where a sensor is not communicating properly. If it is a third party battery, then that is a very likely the problem especially if reseating the I/O Cable doesn't make a difference. The Apple battery has a temperature sensor in it.

All that looks normal

However, it is possible when installing new battery you knocked out one of the thermal sensors.

Run the Apple Hardware test

and run the EtreCheck

Reseting SMC can be tricky since you do not know if it worked

Do it again, but turn on the Caps Lock and monitor the light

Or monitor the MagSafe light

Also publish the battery information found in About this Mac> System report > Power

Did you have the fan issue with the original Apple OEM battery before replacing it?

If so, then you do most likely have another hardware component that has failed.

Now you are scaring me giving up. I have MacBook Air 13" 2017, so not much younger than yours, and I have not got a budget for new one.

My gave me quite a tough time last month, constantly shutting down all the time.

I did not give up and fixed it eventually by removing all the crap, but I was already looking for new one.

Last advice to you, make sure both parts of the MagSafe pug are squeaky clean, and do a VERIFIED SMC reset.

There is also great app called iStat that shows the thermocouples information but it is not free
