I bought a new ipad and signed up for Apple TV+ for 3 months. However, I want to watch Apple TV shows on my home Samsung TV. It is a smart TV but an older one. I see the app on the screen but it is asking me to sign up for free again.

You will need to download the Apple TV app for the TV, if a version of the app is available for your particular TV model.
Otherwise, things get more involved and more expensive with an adapter and HDMI cable from the iPhone, or with an HDMI cable from an Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K box, or similar.
