Music collaboration

I’m trying to collaborate a playlist with a friend of mine. Both have Apple Music obviously, both are up to date. My wife and I have shared a playlist together and I originally thought we had to be in the same family but that is not the case. Since I was able to share it with my parents that are not in the family just fine. Is there a setting that he needs to change for it to actually allow him to join it. The message he keeps getting is collaboration unavailable

the owner stopped the collaborating or you don’t have permission to open it. Please help
