Is there any way to circumvent Apple's DRM to Screen Share Movies/TV on Zoom?
I teach screenwriting over Zoom, and I was dismayed not to be able to screen-share scenes from movies because of the DRM black screen. Is there a workaround? I've purchased much of my film library through Apple over the years, and now I wish I hadn't. Not being able to share clips, or having to find them on Youtube--is annoying.
Now, If you showed up to lecture me on copyright, please don't. I'm a professional writer and fully appreciate the value of copyright. DRM doesn't "protect copyright." Its purpose isn't to protect copyright. Nor is its purpose to prevent illegal downloads. Its purpose is to trap the end user's purchased media in the Apple ecosystem. It complicates the end user's ability to take their purchased content with them should they ever decide to leave the Appleverse. Watching a rented or purchased film with friends, showing movie clips of a purchased film in a classroom--all falls within the parameters of fair use. DRM is nothing more than a predatory business practice. Full stop. Apple doesn't want you to circumvent DRM, but it's not illegal, and doing so in and of itself isn't what determines copyright infringement. You may disagree. That's fine. I'm not going to argue the point.
Now does anyone have any practical workarounds for sharing my screen over Zoom?
Thanks!
