Contacts app is creating thousands of duplicates My contacts are creating duplicates in the thousands for no apparent reason. The merge option worked at first, and then the problem returned and worsened. This might be a virus but I don't want to lose all my contacts, and this may have spread to my backup and to iCloud. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Open the Contacts app.
Click on the Card menu in the menu bar.
Select Look for Duplicates.
The Contacts app will scan your contacts and list any potential duplicates.
Review the list carefully and click Merge for each pair of duplicates you want to combine.
You can manually select which information to keep from each duplicate contact during the merge process.
Repeat the process until no more duplicates are found.
