how do I clear my iphone cache

My iphone 14 Pro Max often switches into the App Switcher or goes to a home screen without any action from me. I don't even be touching the phone for this to happen.

This has been going on since the day I first turned on the phone on 2022-09-22 (sorry but I do not know which ios version.)

I am currently using iOS 16.6.1 which is hardly current but I have not recovered from running out of room on my hard drive. You can't do an iphone update without an internal hard drive.

Since I have never seen anyone ask about how to fix this (yet) and I don't have any idea how to post this as a question in the "Community", I'll start with how can I clear my iphone cache, not just from a browser but all cache and temporary files too?

Please help. This situation has driven me crazy for way too long.

Thank you in advance for all your offerings.

Your phone will never go to the app switcher unless you open the app switcher by swiping up from the bottom of the screen to the midpoint and hold there for a second. It’s possible to do this accidentally when finished with an app, because to go from an app to the Home screen you also swipe up from the bottom of the screen, but don’t keep your finger on the screen; just swipe up and lift your finger.

If it happens when you aren’t touching the phone you either have the phone plugged in with a bad cable, or the screen digitizer is defective and you have what is informally called “ghost touch."

There is no iPhone cache; some individual apps have a cache, but in general it is managed by each app that has one. And there are no persistent temporary files.

You should update your phone; the current version is 17.3, and there have been a lot of security updates between 16.6.1 and 17.3.

Thank you, Lawrence, for your reply.

However, I have seen this happen time and time again, without any action on my part, including when the phone is in a stand and both hands are typing on my mac. It also happens whether wired or wireless. So that should rule out cords.

So, please understand that this is not a desired action, but it happens too often for this to be just a fluke, unfortunaely.

Also would like to take a moment to offer some background information. I went through culture shoch when I got my 14PM because I couldn't get any of the swiping actions to work for me, so the phone was not serving me very well. I know everybody went through some trama but before Sept. of 22, I was using my tried and true iPhone 7plus.

I have since turned to accessibility and now use Assistive Touch to handle the little things, like the App Switcher.

Please understand that this "workaround" was not set up right away, but bopping back to home screen and sometimes app switching has been happening almost since the first hour of use. But I felt that if I didn't mention it, and this turns out to be the problem, then I was not a very good community member.

I KNOW THAT I NEED TO UPDATE MY PHONE ASAP. But there is always something else getting in the way. Hopefully, I can get it done today.

Since you mentioned it, how do you fix or eliminate a ghost touch.

Thank you.

Lawrence, thank you again for your reply. I will definitely look into this further.

I knew the first time it happened that the behavior was abnormal. I was just hoping that it would take care of itself. <sigh>

And I do have a Zagg screen protector which I will never be without, dispite what apple says. I asked someone about what description they would use to describe my 7+: "pristine".

Do you know of any sort of application that will test a phone for screen issues?

Thank you again..

Hello, your problem looks familiar. I will be summarized: 1. Automatic update must always be enabled and you have to check regularly every week, it is best if there are new updates! 2. Turn on "Lock Mode" in the privacy settings and read about how it works so that it does not limit the things you do but that this mode is always on 3. Your phone is spying on and the applications and the system behaves so "strangely". How is your battery? It comes down quickly? :) How for such a new and advanced phone?:) Greetings
