Photos won't export on Mac Mini with Sonoma 14

Using MacMini 2018 with Sonoma 14. Photos won't export a photo at all. Had this problem several times before. Had the Mac inspected at Genius bar but that revealed nothing. Scanned the Mac using Malware Bytes, but Malware Bytes crashed, as has happened often before. Thought this problem might have been caused by two of my 3 external drives not functioning properly as they wouldn't mount, so I've thrown them out. Am I on a sinking ship? Should I buy a new computer? Should it be Mac or something else? I'm serious. I need a computer to write, create web sites and do a bit of photo editing and desktop publishing, but I'm retired and not spending much time on a computer any more. I'll look at any alternatives. This Mini has been a great computer so far, but I'd just as soon get rid of it if it's always going to be trouble.

Any info, especially from cranky, disillusioned users like me, appreciated.

Remove all 3rd party virus apps (Avast, AVG, Bitdefender, Intego, MacAfee, Norton, ESET NOD32, Trusteer etc) and 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up" apps (CleanMyMac, MacKeeper etc). They produce only obscure errors and money loss. Don't use VPN services unless you're using it to tunnel into a secure private network such as your employer or school.

If that does not help, backup, reformat, and do a clean Sonoma install. Then restore only images and import them to Photos and check if it now works. Then restore other user data files (do not restore possibly corrupted preferences).
