Apple Watch update ruined my flow

Is there a way to go back to the old functionality of having selected apps that I choose to be quickly accessible with the side button - and swiping for the control center? These were GREAT FEATURES!

I don’t want to scroll through every single app to get to workout or timer on the bottom of the list. (These are apps I use every day. Multiple times per day.)

I tried to make a shortcut. Seems impossible. Definitely too complicated to figure out.

“Music quiz” is a default shortcut option? Is this watch now a toy and I’m confusing it for a device for adults?

I’m using Model A2771

I see that one can customize the side button with the Apple Watch Ultra…whatever that is.

I have no idea if mine is ultra. Why use purposely confusing names? Perhaps Apple could commit to model numbers instead of snappy names like “ultra”?

I’m so frustrated with these changes. They aren’t improvements they’re unnecessary complications.

Sorry, but there is no going back.

What’s new in Apple Watch and watchOS 10 - Apple Support

The following are the more common watchOS 10 complaints. It sounds like yours are different, but I'm including the common ones just in case they are useful to you.

watchOS 10.2 re-enables left/right watch face swiping •Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch. •Scroll down and choose “Clock”. •Toggle on the “Swipe to Switch Face” setting.

The previous Control Center swipe-up has moved to a quick press and release of the flat oval side button

Use Control Center on Apple Watch - Apple Support

DO NOT hold the button, as that brings up Emergency services and the power off icon.

Control Center should then show you the iPhone ping icon (find my iPhone), Battery percentage, Flashlight, Water Lock, Airplane mode, Alarm silence, Theater mode, and all the other Control Center services.

An alternate way to get some of the Control Center services is:

"Hey Siri, find my iPhone"

"Hey Siri, Flashlight"

"Hey Siri, Battery"

"Hey Siri, Airplane mode"

Getting the press and release timing just right can be an issue. You can make it more reliable by changing:

Settings -> Accessibility -> Side Button Click Speed

“Side Button Click Speed” can adjust the press and release timing, so you get the Control Center display every time. Adjusting The "Side Button Click Speed" is also useful for Apple Pay’s double press and release. There is “Default” (sub second timing of needed), “Slow” (up to a second between press and release), and “Slowest” (up to 2 seconds between press and release). I like the “Slow” setting.

NOTE: Slow and Slowest settings do not mean you have to wait a full second or 2 seconds between press and release. It just means you do not need to be super fast.

Apple Watch -> Settings -> Accessibility -> AssistiveTouch can be used to access things like:

o Control Center

o Apple Pay

o Emergency Services and the Power Off icon (labeled "Hold Side Button")

o and many other things...
