Do the new Airpods work with an Iphone XS Max? I have not been able to find an updated answer in Apple Community or in an online search

Yes. An iPhone 6s or newer, including any iPhone SE, will work with them.

Which Airpods for iPhone 17 Pro Max I've had Airpods pro for several years, always worked great with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Just recently upgraded iPhone to 17 Pro max.
