moving itunes files to music

i'm in the same situation as an earlier post answered by turingtest2

i am running monterey on a late 2014 mac mini. one of the suggestions was to convert the library in bug sur and then upgrade back to monterey. i'm waiting for the app store download of big sur to complete before i install it (turns out i am not able to "downgrade" to an earlier OS. in the meantime i have a question about what comes next.

the steps were "copy the .it| file to Big Sur or Catalina and convert it there (the media folder is not required) then move the database to Monterey and place it above the media folder". i'm not sure what converting an .itl file involves.

i've been struggling with this issue for a few weeks. a couple of phone calls to apple support only resulted in a reference to turingtest2's post.

thanking you in advance for a resolution to this issue.

Hi Kat,

If you send me your .itl file or a link to it in a cloud service such as iCloud Drive, OneDrive etc. I can convert the .itl file to the .musiclibrary format for you and send it back. I've done around 100 of these now with almost universal success. You can find my address in my profile here.

third time lucky! the first couple of times i tried, nothing happened. the albums are starting to appear and a notice at the bottom of the sidebar says "activity in progress". i have over 600 gb of media so i will leave it running overnight.

is there anything i need to do with the contents of the old iTunes folder (previous libraries, tmp. files, itunes music library, etc.) or should i just leave it alone? "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" has been the code i live by.

thank you so much for assisting me in reaching this goal.
