iPhone won’t recognize secondary payment option after IOS 17.3 update. All my iTunes and app purchases are under that I’d and it’s not working.

iPhone 13 - post 17.3 update my iphone won’t authorize payments on my secondary Apple ID. That is where my money is, and where my downloads are. I tried changing the email but it says the email is already in use (it’s my primary Apple ID which is my iPhone Apple ID). So now Apple has my money and purchases locked. Also, it is saying that my previously purchased songs can’t be downloaded because I’m in a different country or region. I am not. This has stressed me out so much I want to throw this phone away. Never ever had such a problem before. PLEASE HELP!

Even if Apple does not actually say that, in the past the billing/residential address pointed to the local banking institution, which issued the debit- credit card, which then has somehow been used to "verify" your region.

At least in the EU it did not work to have, for example, a german Apple ID and use a Swiss or Austrian credit card as a payment method, even if the banking institution had a branch in Germany.

8 . Select a payment method and enter your new payment information and billing address, then tap Next. You must enter a valid payment method for your new country or region.*

Are you using more than one Apple ID on your iPhone?

Your payment method has to match the region, your Apple ID is registered to.

For example, the banking institution that issued your credit card has to be located in the same country, same for the billing and residential address.

Are you in a different country?

The support article Change your Apple ID country or region - Apple Support describes how to change your country setting on everything using your Apple ID, and the requirements and results of doing this. --> "Redownload your apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books on any devices that you might use to play or read them in the future. Some types of content might not be available in your new country or region. As recommended by Apple in this article, I'm using my primary Apple ID for all Apple Services like iTunes, Apple Music, iCloud, Family Sharing, etc., on all of my Apple devices.

And this is also the Apple ID listed in the account info for my credit card.

Family Sharing Requests are being received via this Apple ID mail address as well.

As for your iTunes message regarding content that can not be downloaded, do you have songs in your iTunes library, that you imported directly to iTunes on your computer from a CD, for example?

If you subscribed to Apple Music, the Music app is trying to download your iTunes library content directly from Apple Music. If those titles are not available in Apple Music for your region, you will get this error message.

Thanks for your suggestions. I continue to have this problem so let me clarify some issues (and apologies if this is not helpful, but I hope it is):

  • I am not in a different country.

  • I live in the U.S. It is the same country/region as my account for my primary Apple ID (which is associated with my phone) and the secondary Apple ID (the one I use for payments on my phone, through iTunes, and via Family Sharing).

  • The primary Apple ID for my phone is not the same as that for iTunes. iTunes Apple ID is the same as the secondary Apple ID on my phone.

  • I have family sharing on (for my granddaughters), and the Apple ID for purchases is the secondary one, and it displays correctly under Settings/AppleID/Family/PurchaseSharing/Purchases. Family members have not been able to purchase anything on their devices because I am not receiving the requests on my phone.

  • My payment method is a credit card from Citi, in New York, that I have used for this purpose for years. The card is not expired and neither my phone nor iTunes has outdated creditcard info.

  • Here's where it gets a little weirder. After syncing my phone with iTunes, a bunch of my music popped up as not being able to be downloaded in my "country/region." Again, the country info is accurate on my phone as well as my iTunes account. But everything I've checked shows as the U.S. being properly selected.

My brain is in knots right now trying to figure this out which is what happens when youre in over your head. I would be delighted to try out any additional suggests or provide other specific information you might need.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate this more than you can know.
