I have same issue with an added problem. A few days after the 17.3 update. I noticed that my phone had reverted or reset itself and logged me out. Had to do the setup all over and put everything back how I had it. Day before yesterday, happened again but this time. It doesn’t take my password and when I tried to unlock the account with my passcode. It doesn’t recognize the passcode. I should clarify also, passcode unlocks the phone and is working to open other information. I also was on a screen share with an Apple advisor who was able to witness my passcode opening the various options for him to verify I had done. I went through iforgot site to initiate recovery. This time it asked for the credit card info and a trusted number along with passcode of my other iPhone. When I entered the passcode. It said it was incorrect as well. I also tried to recover the account from the other iPhone but it too was not accepting the passcode. On a second attempt to initiate recovery it didn’t ask for the passcode but said that I had 24hrs to wait. Now, I’ve just a couple hours left but the problem will still be there and the only solution is to take the phone to an Apple Store and have the phone reset and updated software installed. Of course this will happen after a successful recovery. I’m posting this only as a possibility for anyone that comes up against the “verification failed” and passcode input issues. I don’t have a Mac or I would do the software install myself. This is the second phone that I’ve had software issues with but I guess from what I’ve seen I’m not the only one. Good luck and thank you.

Account verification is a somewhat nebulous term Apple uses. It could mean you need to check and also make sure your Apple Account information is up to date --> https://appleid.apple.com/ . However, in 19 years of having an Apple Account I have never seen this so I suspect it goes beyond that. If you are seeing this message as part of wanting to download something from one of the stores, see if what they mean is "verify payment". Add a payment method to your Apple ID as outlined in: Add a payment method to your Apple ID - Apple Support .

On an iPhone:

Open the Settings app.

Tap your name.

Tap Media & Purchases, then tap View Account. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.

Tap Manage Payments.

Read the support article for how to do this on other platforms.

It could also mean:

Identity verification for Apple Card or Apple Cash

To protect your account, you might be asked to verify your identity when using Apple Cash or applying for Apple Card. Read in this support article how to do that. --> Identity verification for Apple Card or Apple Cash - Apple Support

If neither of those help, refer to this page for Apple Support features ➔ Contact - Official Apple Support

If the presented options do not resolve your issue, keep experimenting with any series of selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.
