How to change artwork on individual tracks while keeping album display artwork intact.

I have decided to change the artwork of certain songs in my catalog to their “single” cover because it’d look cool for their artwork to be different than the album they belong to. However, I’ve run into an issue where after I upload the single artwork for certain songs, that artwork then becomes the display artwork for the album as a whole. This is particularly weird because in some albums there’s 2-4 singles with unique covers but only the ONE song dictates the display album cover. The non-single tracks on the album all keep the standard album cover. Is there any way to get pass this display issue? I went through all the work of finding each single cover and so I want to make it work. Let me know if I can clarify anything!

P.S. The artwork issue is mostly relevant to how it syncs to display on Apple Music on my iPhone. iTunes on my Mac has not been displaying artwork correctly for a while but for the most part it had been reflecting as intended on iPhone until this situation.
