My AirPods Pro pods and case were quite low on power, so I plugged them into an official lightning cable all night and in the morning the case showed 0% charged and the pods were around half charged.
Now the case refuses to charge at all just showing 0% and the pods themselves don’t appear to charge.
I took them into the Apple Store and they reminded me that I can charge these wirelessly so they put them on a MagSafe charger and they did charge a small bit. But after running some diagnostics, they were unable to get the lightning port to communicate with their tools so they concluded that the port was dead and that I would have to charge it wirelessly from now on.
When I got home, I put the case on a wireless charger overnight and they filled to 100%. Now the lighting port seems to work just fine.
So the solution is simply to recharge the case wirelessly, so that the lightning port will start working again.
