Play Sound in Find My says that my AirTag is unreachable when I'm right next to it. And, it gives the location "Now". How can I get it to play sound? It has a new battery.

I think I figured it out. The battery read 3.03v but the AirTag may not have been happy with that. Put in new battery (non Duracell with no bitter taste coating), put in battery and took it out 7 times (until the sound changes) to reset the AirTag, and then brought it close to the phone. It then reconnected (you have to name it again) but now the Play Sound works fine.
