iPad pro restarts videos when air pods disconnected

This is not a question about auto play.

If I am playing a video (let's say using the Youtube app or AppleTV or Xfinity streaming app) on my iPad Pro and using Air Pod Pros as my headphones, if I pause the app and disconnect the Air pods then the video will restart, begin playing, and use the iPad speakers.

Ideally, if I pause the video and disconnect my earphones, the video would just remain paused.

Any way to resolve this?
