How to disable on screen keyboard/text input bubble when using apple vision pro

I want to disable the onscreen keyboard in AVP. It (or the little type preview widget) annoyingly pop up in front of the thing i am trying to type into. It doesn't remember where I put it after switching apps.

Apple Vision Pro, visionOS 1

I can only speak for myself, but this issue (and other UI bugs I experienced) seem to be related to Full Keyboard Access. Try disabling it under Settings -> Accessibility -> Keyboards -> Full Keyboard Access -> Off.

This is unfortunate; I otherwise enjoy having many of the shortcuts.

Just to make this more clear. When I have my Mac connected to AVP and click in a text field on a native AVP application (e.g. Messages), the onscreen keyboard covers the Messages app. Once I start typing on the Mac to enter text, the on screen keyboard changes to the typing widget (although still covering the app). I then move this widget out of the way, finish my typing and then go back to using my mac.

The next time that I use the messages app, I have to go through the whole sequence again...

This is my #1 frustration with using AVP. My workflow is constantly interrupted by these two annoying visual dialogs covering the thing I am looking at.

  1. The onscreen keyboard should not show up when I am using a mac keyboard
  2. The text typing widget should be pinned to the keyboard I am using or the place in space that i put it.
