Upgraded to Sonoma has disconnected my iTunes library that is on an Ext hd

I am running a Mac mini that doesn't have space for my music library so it was placed on an external drive. Ever since I upgraded to Sonoma the new Music app only shows music bought from the iTunes Store and not from my iTunes Library that is on the external. I have tried opening the app with option and pointing it to the iTunes library and nothing happens and Music creates a new Music Library on my Mini. I have tried importing playlist and tried import from the File menu and it still won't show any old music from the iTunes Folder. I haver tried deleting the new Music library and then opening with Option and still nope.

Any help would be very much appreciated as I have spent hours trying with no hint of a solution.
