MacBook Air Early 2015 issues upgrading to macos Monterey

I have a MacBook Air early 2015. I am already running Big Sur v11.7.10. I have 20.8G free memory. I'm trying to upgrade to Monterey. I went the the Apple Store and got a link to get macos Monterey. It opens the Software Upgrade window, but it gets stuck with a moving progress bar saying "Finding Update". It never returns. I've restarted the macbook multiple times. It hangs in the same place. Any ideas that may help?

Agree with @BDAqua on Empty Space Requirement on the Internal Drive

Having " I have 20.8G free memory "should be Empty Drive Space

Personally, am more liberal and suggest at least 50 GB of Empty Space

It will allow the Full Version ( about 12.xx GB ) to download, expand and then commence to install.

If there is Third Party Security Software installed - remove it.

It will interfere with both the download and installation process

Should one need assistance on make Empty Space on the computer

I am sure we would be willing to assist with this - just ask
