‏ Apple TV apps cannot be updated

When I make a personal hotspot from my iPhone, the Apple TV works normally. Only when I update the applications does it update them?! I found a solution, but it is a bit tedious. It is to remove the application and then install it again. I did not encounter this problem with iOS 16. Are there any instructions?

Apps stay linked to the Apple ID account that was active when installing them. To update these apps, authentication is needed for the App Store from that same account. That means those apps will not update when a different account is the active account. Could that be it? Do you have a multiple accounts active on your unit, or do you use a different account than previously (without resetting)?

Reinstalling apps using the current account would solve that.


I did not encounter this problem with iOS 16.

Did you verify if automatic updates are still active in tvOS 17.x?
