My iPads memory is 32gb only and its 98% full. How can I clean it up?

Hello I have an iPad with the memory of 32gb. And it’s almost full, and 12gb of it- photos. I use iCloud for photos but still they don’t disappear from my iPad memory. So what can I do to take out the photos of my iPod saving them only on iCloud and this way liberating memory of my iPad?

Thanks a lot

If your iPad's storage is nearly full, especially with a significant portion occupied by photos, here are steps to help you manage and free up space:

1. Optimize iPhone Storage:

- Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos.

- Turn on "Optimize iPhone Storage." This option keeps full-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and only downloads them to your iPad when you view them.

2. Delete Unnecessary Apps:

- Review your installed apps and delete any that you no longer use.

- To check app storage usage, go to Settings > [your name] > iPad Storage.

3. Clear Safari Cache:

- Safari stores data that can take up space. Clear the cache by going to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data.

4. Remove Downloaded Music, Movies, or TV Shows:

- If you have downloaded content for offline use, consider removing it to free up space.

- Go to Settings > TV (or Music) > Downloaded Music (or Downloaded TV Shows/Movies) to delete downloaded content.

5. Manage Messages:

- Delete old messages and media files in the Messages app.

- Go to Settings > Messages > Keep Messages, and choose a duration.

6. Review and Delete Large Files:

- In Settings > iPad Storage, review the list of apps and their storage usage.

- Delete any apps with large storage requirements, or consider removing unnecessary files from within those apps.

7. Backup and Remove Photos:

- Ensure that your photos are backed up to iCloud.

- Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos and turn on "iCloud Photos."

- Once confirmed, you can delete photos from your iPad without losing them from iCloud.

8. Use iCloud Drive:

- Move files from your iPad to iCloud Drive to free up space.

- Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Drive and toggle on the apps you want to use with iCloud Drive.

9. Check Recently Deleted Folder:

- Open the Photos app and go to the "Albums" tab.

- Under "Other Albums," check the "Recently Deleted" folder. Delete permanently if needed.

10. Offload Unused Apps:

- Enable "Offload Unused Apps" in Settings > [your name] > iTunes & App Store. This will remove apps you don't use frequently but keep their data.

11. Check for iOS Updates:

- Make sure your iPad is running the latest version of iPadOS, as updates may include optimizations and improvements.

12. Consider External Storage:

- If you frequently work with large files, you might consider using external storage options compatible with iPad.

Following these steps should help you reclaim storage space on your iPad. Regularly managing your storage usage can help keep your device running smoothly.

Setting aside the AI-generated information above, it is generally recommended that you maintain 4-6GB of free space at all times - as your iPad needs some temporary space to complete some tasks - such as performing system software updates.

Space constrained devices, with only 16/32GB of internal space, are always going to be challenge for internal storage - as this available space is shared with the installed Operating System. While cheaper to purchase, small capacity devices are often false economy.

If your internal storage is full, or is insufficient for the task that you need to perform, your only option is to better manage the storage that you have - and delete unused Apps or unneeded data.

“Offloading” Apps can be a helpful method of creating temporary space - perhaps for a software update.

External storage options can often help with managing limited internal storage. Depending upon your iPad model, the iPad will either have a Lightning or USB-C port - and may therefore require either an Adapter or USB hub to connect the USB Storage device. If your iPad has a Lightning port, you’ll need an Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter:
