Unable to pair Macally mouse to MacBook Pro post Sonoma update

I recently upgraded the OS on my MacBook Pro (M2 Pro) from Ventura to Sonoma.

Now I’m unable to connect to the Macally bluetooth mouse (BTTOPBATBL).

It worked fine under Ventura.

Bluetooth detects the mouse and display it as a nearby device, but I’m unable to connect when I click the connect button in the Bluetooth settings. See pic below:

No error message is displayed.

Can you assist in troubleshooting this problem please?

Hi,

Just for the ones that have a little bit of shell knowledge or just wanna play a little bit, I figured a way to make a MACALLY BTTOPBAT work on Mac Sonoma +14.0

  • Install brew

brew install blueutil

# Ensure bluetooth is running (The system will ask you for consent to manage the Bluetooth from the terminal)
blueutil --power 1

# turn on the mouse in pairing mode and run.
blueutil --inquiry
# This command should return a list of bluetooth devices, find the one wich the name matches the device and get the address.

# Locate the mouse MAC address and then run:
blueutil --pair <address>

# The tool will ask you for a PIN, add it and you will see the mouse in the list of paired devices on the mac

After doing this process, go to Bluetooth devices and selected the mouse and connect it.

PD: I've tried this process in several macs, some of them give me an unknown error code 0x1f (Unspecified error) when you try to pair the device, when that happens simply restart the computer and make the pair step again.

I hope it helps

An investment of over $3k on a MacBook Pro is not to be trashed "and move to some other platform".

It is incumbent on Apple, which charges hefty prices, to fix their OS defects.

There is no nonsense or conspiracy here.

These are facts. Sonoma 14.4.1 stopped pairing Bluetooth devices

that worked perfectly well before.

Actually, I just tried an old Mac Wireless mouse, model A1015, and it wouldn't

pair either.

So, there seems to be something wrong with the Sonoma 14.4.1 Bluetooth module.

So, instead of slashing your customers for complaining about defects in your OS, please fix them.

That is all what my posting is about, reaching out to ask for a fix, as all other people posting asked for

The first posting here was from Feb/04/2024.

No action, no answer, no fix from Apple.

Thank you.

Most answers are provided by other Communities users just like you—not by Apple.

Apple can fix Apple Services, Applications, Operating Systems and Accessories

Apple can’t fix the Users’ choice of Third Party Devices used on this Apple computers.

That falls clearly Out-Side the Domain of Apple.

That belongs solely with the Third Party Device Manufacture or Third Party Software used with this device.

Same here. MacAlly BTDYNAMOUSE model. Actually two identical MacAlly mice.

I tried on a MacBook Pro M2 Pro and on

a newer one with M3 Max, both with Mac OS Sonoma 14.4.1.

Nothing works, the mouse cannot pair with the Mac.

All suggestions in the MacAlly web site were tried.

Too bad that Apple changes the OS version and breaks connectivity with 3rd party devices.

Bluetooth is supposed to be a connectivity standard across devices.

Have you ever heard about it Apple?

Or is it a deliberate choice to drop devices from other manufacturers?

[Which are cheaper than Apple's, but perfectly good ... until you break their connectivity and compatibility ...]

Please fix your OS.

I’m not Apple and no one here is an Apple employee either. We’re just fellow users like yourself. Apple Support is not here as these are user-to-user forums. Apple does not monitor these forms except for administrative purposes. So demanding Apple fix something in these forums accomplishes nothing.

And you are completely wrong. Sonoma 14.4.1 did not stop pairing USB devices as millions of users are not experiencing this issue at all. I’m not and all my third party bluetooth devices remain paired as before.

And because there is no widespread issue with the “bluetooth module” you’ll need to investigate yourself by contacting the device manufacturers you’re having issues with.

"No action, no answer, no fix from Apple."

That’s because there is nothing for Apple to fix.
