My trackpad or mouse occasionally gets stuck when I try to drag something, like dragging a file into the trash. When I grab the file or folder and release the mouse, it sometimes gets stuck, and the item I just grabbed remains stuck on the mouse pointer without going away. I have to restart my Mac to resolve this issue, but it sometimes happens again.

Based on other dragging anomalies I've experienced (MacBook M1), I might try toggling Spring-loading (System Settings > Accessibility > Pointer Control) off/on and perhaps also toggling back and forth both the "Use trackpad for dragging" and the "Dragging styles" controls accessed via that same settings pane under Trackpad Options.
If nothing else, doing this when the issue occurs might make rebooting unnecessary. Ditto relaunching the Finder ( > Force Quit > Finder).
