Unable to delete multiple emails on Mac

I can only delete one email message at a time on my Mac pro. There must be a way to delete multiple email messages at one setting.

if the emails are adjacent to each other in your list, click on the first one in the list. then press and hold your keyboard's "shift" key and click the last one on the list. once they are all highlighted, press your keyboard's "delete" key.

but if they are not grouped together, press and hold your keyboard's "command" key while clicking on each of the ones you want to delete. once they are all highlighted, press your keyboard's "delete" key.
