IPod Touch not Recognized in iTunes

I have an updated PC, iTunes ver 12.13.1.3 and an iPod Touch ver 12.5.7. My PC recognizes my iPod Touch but when I run iTunes, my iPod Touch does not show - anywhere in iTunes. No devices, no little icon at the top, like it use to. I can't Sync or do anything. I know that Apple is no longer supporting iPods. I use to be able to see my device in iTunes but not with this latest version. Do I need to go back to an older version of iTunes? If so how do I do that? Or is there another remedy to have iTunes recognize my iPod Touch? Help, please.

iPod, iOS 12

Had to uninstall iTunes, as repair and reset did not help. Download what was the latest on the Apple Support site. Install it. But it would not load iTunes because the Library was made from a newer version. So I had to go into my C Drive, find iTunes, find iTunes Software Update EXE file and run it twice to get the "real" latest iTunes version. Install it and finally it loaded, with the Library, and recognized my iPod Touch. What a goat rope! But now I can Sync and get my new tunes on my iPod.

Thanks much bobjbkln. Did try that at the beginning. Even a new cable was tried just in case. Also went to the support page you suggested. That lead me to doing the uninstall and reinstall of iTunes. Took me a while to get there and go through all the hoops but now I'm up and running. Thank you for responding. I appreciate it.
