I'm seeing this come up a lot, but don't see a lot of concrete info, hearing things from; "it's just google doing its thing, to its a possible virus," which is very conflicting and concerning, I don't know what to do about it.
Is it important? can I just delete it, if so, how?
Obviously it is part of Google's suite of apps. But you raise a good question. Suppose you did want to delete it. How would you do that? Can you find out, on your own, from the app itself or anywhere on the Google site, how to delete Google's software?
Where even is it installed on mac? the only place I see it is in login items, under, "allow in background."
If you find any Etrecheck report here in the forum, they will show you exactly where these Google files are installed.
Any more concrete info thats actually useful to make a concrete decision would be very appreciated, thanks!
Well, this is certainly not "concrete" info, but I find it very curious. About the same time that Google started using this new "Google LLC" signature, Google also started dropping empty files in launchd config files folders. I even made a change to EtreCheckPro 6.8.4 to better show these files. You can see them on any EtreCheck report. They aren't zero byte files. They are valid plist files - just empty.
This is like Google has installed an open-ended backdoor on your computer. They can choose to populate these files with anything they want, and that software will run, 24/7 in the background. I have never seen any other app do this. Maybe I should do some experimentation and see how Ventura and Sonoma's new background item notifications work with these files.
To give you a more concrete answer, if in doubt, you can always just use Safari.
