Disable display of News in the Weather App

Today for the first time I'm seeing a (weather related) News article smack dab in the center of my Weather App - gah! How can I disable this?

I do not need nor want to see "news" when I am checking the weather, I detest Apple's "News" app and have deleted it from my phone, but the "news" item still shows up, meaning I must scroll down to find the info I need that used to be visible.

I can't find any setting in either the Weather App or the Settings....can anyone tell me if it's possible to disable this and if so, how?

Are you using the Weather App, which came already installed on your iPhone, which looks like this:

Or are you using some other Weather App, you may have downloaded? I have never seen an add in the actual Apple Weather App.

Yes, I know that it's local weather-related, that doesn't change the fact that I don't want it to show up in my Weather app and force me to scroll past it to see the actual weather details I want to see...it should be an option, not forced on users, or at the very least they should let me swipe to close it, which I can't do.

Telling us you don't want it, gets you nothing. This is a user to user only forum, and no one from Apple is here. And as users, we don't usually get the option to change anything inside an Apple provided app, so the easiest option if this is bothersome to you, is to purchase a weather app, which is add free. There are other options in the App store, which may better meet your needs.

No, it's version 16.6.1.

I check the weather every morning, both local and for where my mom lives (and this is the first time I've seen this news blob), before I get out of bed, AFTER I scan the news headlines with other news apps.

Since I've already scanned the news, I really only need to know what the temp is and what the day will be like (hourly temp forecast) before I get dressed - I don't need weather news alerts that push the hourly temp info out of view, so while I can understand that most people might like those news items in the weather app, for me it's just annoying.

I did the feedback thing and while I have little hope that it will help, I do cling to some small spark of hope that they might make it a setting rather than forced.

I came across another post here about it, but no solution:

Get rid of the News in the Weather App? - Apple Community

And also an older news item on MacRumors from 2022 when this feature was introduced in 2022 but also has no solution to removing it, at that time it was apparently below the 10-day which would be fine with me, but unhappily they've moved it up - maybe because few people were seeing it (and opening it in their crappy News app, which they've been trying to promote).

SO now it's blocking the hourly and 10-day. :-(

I don't know what to tell you. Since I responded to your post, I've left the weather app open and there is no Apple News Link in my Weather App feed at all.

You might want to contact Apple directly by either calling them (in the US) at: 800-MY-APPLE or tapping the support button at the bottom of this page.

I will say however, is the news link you see is specifically geared for your area, which is Phoenix and maybe it's there to help you know there's a flood threat there and clearly weather related.

Understood, and I do truly appreciate that you took the time to reply. I also use a couple of third party weather apps but have always just appreciated the (former) simplicity of the native app for a quick peek at the day ahead.....but I think you're right, sadly it's time to give up the native App. I'll also follow up using the feedback link you provided, thank you.
