Magic Mouse issues

Magic Mouse issues - Intermittent issue at first. No pointer, when pointer did appear movement of pointer was erratic. Wired mouse works fine. Purchased new magic mouse connects, no pointer, disconnects by itself.

Tried restarting IMAC after unplugging, restarting bluetooth, disconnecting and reconnecting magic mouse and keyboard, just updated to Mac OS Ventura 13.6.4 to see if that would resolve issue. Still no pointer appearing with new mouse connection.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 13.6

Sounds like a Bluetooth interference issue.

I would disconnect all external devices and make sure they are powered off.

Also look at any other devices near your Mac (for example that Microwave oven sitting on your desk next to your Mac :-) ).

Does the problem continue?

Boot macOS Safe Mode:

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

This will not load and start and 3rd party software.

You can try resetting Bluetooth

Bluetooth Reset (Monterey, Ventura and newer)

NOTE: All Bluetooth devices will need to be paired again!

https://macreports.com/how-to-reset-bluetooth-in-macos-monterey

Via Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal, copy & paste the following commands.

NOTE: The below 'sudo' command will prompt for your macOS login password. When you type your password nothing will echo back, but macOS will see every character you type, ending with the 'return' key.

rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist

sudo pkill bluetoothd
