Best Mac OS for mid 2014 MacBook Pro

I recently did some reboot where right after you click the power button on you hold option+command+R it is supposed to “give you options to boot the newest OS you can run on your Mac”… so it brings you to 4 options…

1. reboot with Time Machine which basically erases what you have on your hard disk

2. use safari which when I tried it wouldn’t let me open App Store to download Monterey

3. Reboot latest version of macOS Big Sur (basically reboot what you already had)

4. Something about going into the hard disk.

ended up doing option 3 but my question is what is the best OS to run on a mid-2014 MacBook Pro? Someone had answered that they regretted going from high sierra to Big Sur, I couldn’t reply to them idk why but they said they regretted it bc of too much lag, my Mac runs SMOOTH smooth and VERY fast on latest version of Big Sur, EXCEPT for while playing games that I have plenty of space for. So I wanted to know if I should go back to high sierra or whatever I had between high sierra and Big Sur I know there was something inbetween. What do yall think? Quick answer/reply would be greatly appreciated.

Stick with Big Sur.

That is the newest OS your Mac can run and it’s the OS that will give you the greatest longevity for your computer.

If you downgrade to anything else you’ll find your Mac will be facing lagging support for the OS and any other software sooner rather than later.

There are two macOS versions between High Sierra and Big Sur: Mojave and Catalina.
