Switching from Fitbit to Apple Watch

I am currently a Fitbit user and I am in the market for a newer fitness tracker. I was looking at Garmin but noticed that their pricing for the model I was looking at is similar to the Apple Watch but they do not let iPhone users respond to texts or take calls on their device. I didn't want to pay for features I can't use. So I started taking a serious look at the Apple Watch. For those of you who are familiar with Fitbit and/or Garmin devices, I am looking for input as to how the Apple Watch compares. For instance, does Apple offer challenges like Garmin? Fitbit used to, but since Google bought them, they took them away. Bad move in my opinion.

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 17

I was considering the same move (as I wear my new Apple Watch & an about to put my Sense back on the other arm).

The Apple Watch itself is VERY nice, but I’m struggling with finding a good coordinating app. Apple Health is absolutely AWFUL compared to the FitBit app!!! The metrics are listed alphabetically & you can’t rearrange them.

I like reviewing my workouts & seeing my heart rate graphically & when it changed during the workout. … After having to dig a few layers in on Apple Health, I found it but it’s more like erratic bar graphing then the FitBit line graph with color changes for HR zones.

The most recent Fitbit app update fixed some bugs & made it much more customizable and clean on the screens. It links flawlessly with MyFitnessPal for my food calorie info, & with my Withings scale. Now I’m spoiled.

I came here searching for ways to get my Apple Watch data to sync to the Fitbit app, but all I found was limited to 5 metrics which don’t include HR, etc.

I’ve seen Garmin & Samsung fitness watch apps before, so I’m blown away at how everyone can make a more workable, custom fitness screen EXCEPT Apple.

I will probably have to return my Apple Watch simply based on the horrible app.

Still looking for a Fitbit-like iOS app over the next week first. Guess I’ll be wearing two watches in the meantime.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I've discovered that there is no perfect app and it just takes time to adjust to something new. My main concern is finding an activity tracker that can give an accurate heart rate as compared to a chest strap heart rate monitor. Plus there are only a handful of trackers that are FDA cleared and Apple Watch is one of them. I have watched numerous YouTube videos that have shown graphs of many trackers they have tested and Apple Watch is always at the top for heart rate tracking.

I started looking at Garmin devices because they don't put any of their metrics behind a paywall like Fitbit has done and they have challenges which Fitbit took away when they were acquired by Google. Fitbit only shows three heart rate zones, when there is actually five. From what I've seen online, Fitbit may not be around very much longer anyway.

When I found a Garmin device I was considering, I realized that it cost as much as the Apple Watch so I figured I should take a serious look at the Apple Watch because the Garmin device I was looking at will only let you respond to texts and take a call for Android users only. Fitbit is the same way. I'm thinking this may by an Apple thing to drive people who have an iPhone to buy an Apple Watch. I don't want to pay for features I can't use.
