How do I get rid of the picture height icon in Final Cut Pro?

Hello. I've edited before, but I've never come across this screen height icon that won't let me see the entire screen. Has anyone else encountered this? I know it's probably something simple, but it's there, and I can't get rid of it (and I can't see the text screens I'm creating).

Thanks.

Your project is Vertical (1080x1920), and you have a Horizontal clip inside it. The clip is automatically scaled to Fit inside the frame - leaving a lot of empty space at the top and bottom.

Do you actually want to create a vertical video?

If not, then press Command-J to open the Project Inspector, then click "Modify" and change the frame size of your project. The clips will automatically adjust.

If we are indeed talking about the Viewer in FCP, and Fit gets you only 40%, that is because of the space currently available on your screen.

That will depend on the screen resolution, but also on how you have your Final Cut Pro interface. You can drag vertically to give more space to the viewer instead of the timeline, for example. You can close the Inspector, and you can even close the browser if you are not needing it at the moment. All of those will make more space for the Viewer.

Or perhaps we are not completely understanding the problem.

Note that, for example, if you are editing 4K and your screen resolution is smaller than that, there will need to be some scaling to show the whole thing.

Perhaps a screenshot would help clarify.
