How to Redirect Gmail Messages to iCloud Trash in Apple Mail on iMac

Great news!! I made contact with one of the Apple geniuses and he successfully diagnosed and fixed my problem. We went to Apple's WebMail and my iCloud account. In the settings for my iCloud account is a place where one can key in an address where one wants all email to get forwarded to. In my case, it was my gmail address. Directly below the address entry is another check box that one can make the determination as to what you want to do with these messages. In my case, I chose delete. Long story short, I simply unchecked the forward checkbox and now everything works just fine. I asked the Apple tech why that checkbox was in Apple's WebMail instead of my iMac. His answer was golden: It is in WebMail so that when you make a change, the results encompass all of your Apple products. Done, done, and done.

I only have one gmail account and one iCloud account. I performed your test: sent from my iCloud address to my iCloud address. It went to my gmail account inbox. Is Google's gmail really that invasive? What would happen if I just deleted the entire gmail account (everything: files, folders, the lot)?

My ISP is XFinity. Their latency times are all over the map. I have run 3 test messages. The first 2 all went to the gmail inbox. The third one hasn't arrived yet. I sent that one today (02092024 0508hrs EST). It still has not arrived in either one of my 2 inboxes. I tried quitting Apple Mail completely. The turning it back on. Nothing. No joy. Any more suggestions? Can you spell frustrated? I knew you could.

The 4th test message finally arrived about 5 minutes ago. Still nothing in my iCloud inbox. I rebooted my iMac, looked at my iCloud account in System Preferences. Nothing. I have one more avenue: Apple. I'll do that when I have more time to devote to this problem. In the mean time, I will just keep looking. I'm sure it's just a switch or the click of the mouse.

I just tried your suggestion. System Preferences>>Internet Accounts. selecting my gmail account, followed by unchecking Mail does get rid (not permanently) of all gmail inbox messages. Not a good thing because most all of my mail still gravitates to the gmail inbox. I could simply copy the current gmail contents over to my iCloud inbox but then more incoming email messages would eventually end up in the gmail inbox. I'm trying to stay away from creating a rule that would automatically move those messages that wind up in the gmail inbox over to the iCloud inbox. But that would mean that I would be required to keep gmail on board. FYI: of all 4 test messages sent FROM my iCloud account (also CC'd and BCC'd to my iCloud account): none made it to my iCloud inbox but all 4 wound up in my gmail inbox. In constructing the 4 test messages, my gmail account address was not keyed in to any of them. Just my iCloud address. There is a setting somewhere in the Apple Mail preferences that I can choose that will keep messages not destined for my gmail account from winding up in that inbox. I just can't find it.
