iPad Mini app version choice?

Is there an option that can be selected as to whether an iPad mini installs the iPhone or iPad version of apps from the App Store?

I have several apps that I know have iPad versions but my iPad mini installs the iPhone version & I have to enlarge the image to an unsatisfactory aspect ratio.

Apps that you can install on your iPad are the iPad version.

Some iPhone Apps that are compatible with iPad will not be coded by the respective App Developer to optimally display on the larger iPad screen. As such, you will see the App screen layout and aspect ratio that was created for the iPhone.

For these Apps, you might contact the App Developer - and request that the App is further developed to optimally use the iPad's larger screen.

That's not what I’ve experienced. I have a game on my iPad mini that is clearly the iPhone version with button to scale up. A friend has exactly the same game installed on a full sized iPad and it does not require being scaled up & has a slightly diferent appearance.

There are other apps on my iPad mini that are the iPhone version, I just assumed as you said that it was because the app developer had only made an iPhone version, but now I’m not so sure.
