AirTag QUANDRY

My parents are elders. They do NOT have I-phones.

I bought them an AirTag for their Car Keys' keychain, in case they lose their keys I can help find them.

I am the owner of the AirTag and it's on my "Find My" app.

A few days later they got a WARNING about an AirTag "tracking them".

They got scared.......but I assured them it was the keys.

However, I thought Air Tags were for luggage, backpacks, wallets, pocketbooks, keys, to alert you of separation/location from these items when you are looking for them IN THE APP.

How do they dismiss the warning on a Samsung phone, and how do I continue the alerts to my "Find My" app?

iPhone 5c, iOS 10

Basically, that is true ... but they are designed to notify YOU of the item that is YOURS. Otherwise, if you place them on something that is not, and that item is outside the Bluetooth range of your iPhone, they are designed to let whomever are nearby of their presence. This is what is happening here.

It's Apple's way to prevent folks from using their tags from tracking someone or something they own. In essence, this is what you are doing, regardless of your good intent.

... so, you basically have a couple of choices here:

  1. Spend some time with them to let them know the "why" this is happening and get their feedback on, whether or not, they agree to this. Remember that the tags will continue to notify them and make random sounds.
  2. Remove the AirTag(s) and find another method to help them keep track of their items.
