Dtld msgs large ones but total storage has not updated
Here are some steps to address this issue:
Resolving Storage Space Not Updating After Deleting Text Messages:
1. Check Recently Deleted Messages:
- Deleted messages might still be in the "Recently Deleted" folder, which consumes storage until they are permanently removed. Open the Messages app, go to "Recently Deleted," and delete the messages permanently from there.
2. Clear Cache and Data:
- Clearing the cache and data of the Messages app can sometimes help in refreshing the storage usage. Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, select the Messages app, and choose to "Offload App" or "Delete App" to clear its data.
3. Restart Your iPhone:
- Performing a restart can refresh the device and ensure that any changes, including deleted messages, are properly reflected in the storage calculations. Restart your iPhone and check the storage status again.
4. Check Other Storage Usage:
- Review other storage-consuming items on your iPhone, such as photos, videos, apps, or cached data. You may find other areas where you can free up space to optimize your device's storage.
5. Update iOS:
- Ensure that your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS. Updates can sometimes include fixes for storage-related issues and improve the overall performance of your device.
6. Reset Settings (Optional):
- As a last resort, if the storage space still doesn't improve, you can consider resetting all settings on your iPhone. This won't delete any data but can realign various system configurations that may impact storage.
7. Contact Apple Support:
- If the issue persists after trying these steps, contacting Apple Support may provide you with more personalized assistance and further recommendations to address the storage space discrepancy on your iPhone.

Text messages are not very large in the scheme of things.
Music, movie, photo, and app files are often much larger.
I disabled and deleted messages now it looks like I need to wait 30 days in order for them to be permanently deleted. In the meantime it did free up lots of storage space that I was looking to accomplish an iCloud.
Are you asking about iCloud storage? Or local storage on your phone?
Icloud says for messaging 3.7 g
cleared out tons left in details to clear says 6 m the 3.7 doesn’t updt
