Airdrop mislabeling other devices as my personal MacBook.

When I airdropped a file from my work iMac to my iPhone, I saw that my personal MacBook showed up on airdrop. My personal MacBook should not be showing up at work, as I had left it at home, an hour away drive. To test what would happen, I sent the file to my personal MacBook and it showed up on my coworkers computer. I have no idea what’s going on and I’m nervous that airdrop is confusing strangers’ computers for my personal MacBook. How do I fix this? Any ideas?

It sounds like there may be an issue with the device names or network settings on your devices, causing Airdrop to mislabel them. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check Device Names:

- Make sure that all your devices have unique and distinguishable names. Sometimes, devices with similar names can confuse Airdrop. You can change the device name in the settings of each device.

2. Verify Wi-Fi Connectivity:

- Ensure that all your devices are connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. Airdrop requires Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to be enabled on both the sending and receiving devices.

3. Restart Devices:

- Try restarting all the devices involved, including your work iMac, personal MacBook, iPhone, and any other devices that may be affected. This can sometimes help resolve connectivity issues.

4. Reset Network Settings:

- On your iPhone, you can try resetting the network settings to default. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN settings.

5. Update Software:

- Ensure that all your devices are running the latest version of their respective operating systems. Software updates often include bug fixes and improvements that can resolve connectivity issues.

6. Contact Apple Support:

- If the issue persists after trying the above steps, you may want to reach out to Apple Support for further assistance. They can provide specialized support and troubleshoot the issue in more detail.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue with Airdrop mislabeling devices. If the problem continues, it's best to seek assistance from Apple Support or an authorized service provider for further assistance.
