I have noticed recently that when I request a new virtual card number, that new number is shared with some of my subscription (monthly) accounts.
Can I control which merchants get told of my new virtual number?
No, Mastercard (not Apple or Goldman Sachs) automatically updates transactions identified as a subscription. Mastercard considers it a feature/convenience for the cardholder.

With one subscription of mine rotating to a new card number was effective at stopping the charges
but no longer works that way....
Maybe they just recently got setup w/ MasterCard as a "subscription service".
