Pairing iPhone 15 Max to iMac

When trying to pair my iPhone 15 Max via Bluetooth to my iMac I keep getting an 'iMac not supported' message.

The iMac is a new M3 model with the latest macOS, and the iPhone has the latest iOS 17 software.

I'm attempting to use the 'Control Nearby Devices facility on the iPhone. The search never showed any devices, and going, via the Bluetooth route gave the previously mentioned message.

Any ideas or guidance are greatly appreciated.

You can’t do that. That has never been supported, nor is it necessary at all.

All you need is to be in proximity and signed into the same Apple ID, have Bluetooth and WiFi on.
