Unable to pair iPhone XR with MacBook Air via Bluetooth

After returning from international travel with the phone, it is no longer Bluetooth paired with the MacBook Air. I followed the steps but the MacBook does not find the phone to pair with when searching for devices. The two items are within 3 inches from each other, both on the same WiFi network, and neither have had software updates recently. The only change was international travel. I restarted both devices as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

iPhone and Mac do not “pair” in the traditional sense. They never have.

To use certain features, both devices simply must be signed into the same Apple ID/Account, connected to wi-fi and have Bluetooth enabled.
