Mac Mini Bluetooth module unable to detect iPhone

While my iPhone 14 Pro and M2 Pro Mac mini are in Bluetooth pairing mode, the Mac mini appears in the iPhone's available Bluetooth devices list, but the iPhone will not appear in the Mac mini's available device list. If I try to pair them from the iPhone, it fails with the error: "Pairing Unsuccessful", "[name] M2 Pro Mac Mini is not supported".

Both the iPhone and Mac mini can see and connect to other Bluetooth devices with no problem. Both devices are updated to latest version of iOS and macOS (17.4 and 14.4 respectively). I've already tried restarting the Bluetooth module and rebooting both devices. The other recommendation to use "forget this device" is irrelevant since the devices cannot connect in the first place.

What's the deal here? Is this connection really not supported?

The message is accurate. While there are many activities on the iPhone and Mac that use the Bluetooth protocol, they do not require pairing in the traditional sense. The Apple article below may help.

Have you tried to reset Bluetooth on the Mac and iPhone and also reset SMC and PRAM on the Mac?

My understanding is that resetting SMC and PRAM only applies to Intel-based Macs, not the new Apple Silicon based Macs. For example, see this MacWorld article. Apparently, the closest I can get to a reset on my M2 Mac mini is to power down for at least 30 seconds and then restart it, which I've done already.

Instructions for resetting Bluetooth on the iPhone are 'go to Settings > Bluetooth, find the device you want to unpair, tap the "i" icon next to it, then tap "Forget This Device"', but since my iPhone and Mac mini cannot connect in the first place, there is nothing to forget.

@peterfrombiddenden, If I end up opening a support case with Apple, I'll report the outcome here.
