Highlighting Text in Apple OS 14

In previous OS versions and applications, it was quite easy to highlight a block of text block to move, delete of copy it, but in OS 14 it has become difficult and unreliable, and sometimes impossible. Attempting to highlight a text block sometimes results in unwanted actions like a window with a word definition. Highligting now requires a "soft" push on the trackpad which is a bit annoying, but would be OK if it worked every time. This "improvement" to the OS is very annoying given how often this feature is used. I wish Apple would restore the old functionality. This problem continues to plague OS 14.1.2
