ICloud for Windows 15.0.214 will not synch calendar or contacts

iCloud for Windows 15.0.214 arrived unexpectedly on my Win 11 22H2 laptop yesterday (8 Feb 24). Many hours later I have still not been able to get the update properly installed despite multiple attempts. Calendar and contact sync works fine between the Apple server and my iPad and iPhone, just not with windows.

When I attempt to complete the install, I get this message "Your setup couldn't start because your user name or password is incorrect. But I'm using the same username and password." If I login to iCloud on the web, and select calendar, a "Report Calendar problem" pop-up is presented with the request to report the problem to Apple, which I have done multiple times.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue with iCloud for Windows 15.0.214?

My laptop is a Dell e3420 running Windows x64 and MSO 2021 full local copy 32 bit version.

What finally worked for me was restoring my PC using an image I made after installing the Jan Windows updates. To do this, I backed up all of my data, disconnected from the Internet and did the restore. On rebooting, I immediately deleted all my old data that came in with the restoration and restored the current data from my backup. Next, I opened a terminal in admin mode and ran sfc / scannow, which found and repaired corrupted system files. I then reconnected to the Internet and started Outlook. When I did, the iCloud for Windows icon appeared in the system tray and everything worked. It's been about 24 hours now.

I haven't checked if the iCloud for Windows update came in, but I assume it has. Leaving that be for now as I catch up on work.

I'm guessing that the the corrupted files that sfc /scan repaired did the trick. If you don't have a backup image to fall back on, you might try uninstalling iCloud for Windows, disconnecting from the Internet, rebooting, running sfc /scannow once or maybe twice, then reconnecting to the Internet and reinstalling iCloud for Windows.

You can find information on sfc \scannow with a simple Internet search. You might also do a search for DISM, which needs an Internet connection to run, and running it's RestoreHealth command.

Best of luck

I honestly have no idea what has caused the problem, the indications are mixed.

I have a Dell Optimum tower that is several years old and a Dell e3420 laptop now about 2 years old. Both are running running Win 11 22H2 Professional and MSO 2021 local, also professional. Everything is working fine on the Optimum, and not so fine on the e3420.

All told, though, I am one of the lucky ones among those with this problem - at least so far. When iCloud for Win 15.0.215 first came in, there was no calendar sync. I restored to an earlier build of my laptop which included the previous version of iCloud for Windows. Then Win 15.0.215 reinstalled itself after about a week, but this time calendar sync started to work even though there is no iCloud icon in the System Tray. When I login to the laptop, the new iCloud for Win app sometimes pops up. I just close it.

Just to make sure things are still working, I have a test calendar entry that I move daily to confirm that it also gets moved on my iPad & iPhone.

Hoping that someday this issue will be solved - maybe by a Windows update or maybe by a tweak to iCloud for Windows.

P.S.: I don't sync contacts -my iCloud Contacts folder is empty.

OK - So late last night iCloud for Windows 15.0.215 installed itself again. Aaargh! But this morning I realized that even though there is no ICldWin icon in the system tray and the Refresh Button in Outlook 2021 is grayed out, calendar sync is working. I tried repairing both the iCldWin app and the iCld for Outlook apps in System > Apps, but that had no effect. Since it is working, I am just going to leave it be. Cheers.
