Have had iPhone for years & needing new laptop. Have used non Apple laptops in past, now time for Mac.
mostly will be used for writing, pictures & music.

If you are considering the Apple refurbished products, I would not hesitate to recommend them. Over the years, I have had 2 MacBook Pros, 2 MacBook Airs and 2 iMacs. All have been pristine in appearance and function. I usually take advantage of the savings to purchase AppleCare for the unit.
I agree 100% with what stedman1 has suggested. There are savings to be had with Apple refurbished computers, and they carry the same warranty as brand new. They are also eligible for AppleCare.
I would caution you against purchasing a used Mac from eBay, FB Marketplace, and any source other than Apple or an Apple-Certified dealer. (I've even read reports that some Amazon used Macs are problematic). In general, unless the Mac has been prepared for sale or trade-in properly, it can sometimes be impossible for the new owner to use it at all (it's still tied to the previous owner's login password, AppleID, etc.).
