My gmail is offline on my MacBook Pro and I can't get it online so I can get see new emails.

reboot Mac into SafeBoot Mode and try logging into your email account in the Mail app.
Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
reboot as normal.

disable Safari>Settings -> Advanced and uncheck "Use advanced tracking and fingerprinting protection" and compare your results.
no resolve—delete gmail account from >System Settings>internet accounts.
with Safari.app>Settings>Advanced turned off under Privacy> “Use advanced..”
now re-add your gmail account
Note—
IMAP accounts stay on the server, so no local loss, when you re-sync
POP accounts download and remove from the server—therefor save your inbox/sent box if you want them
“On My Mac" is just that, local folders you created and moved mail into. So no loss
