Recommendation for best alternative Microsoft Word App?

I used to use Document Writer Pro, but my current version has gotten flaky. Apparently no longer offered in the App Store, and has mysteriously disappeared from my APP folder of apps purchased. Doc Writer Pro did all that I needed w/o the high price. Seeking a good replacement.

There is no one best alternative, and there are many.

Here are some of the alternatives: https://alternativeto.net/software/microsoft-word/?platform=mac

I use a mixture of Apple iWork Pages, vim, Scrivener, occasionally LibreOffice and BBEdit, and some other tools, depending on the particular task.

Document Writer Pro is still listed in the Mac App Store, but the most recent update was ~eight years ago:

Thanks for the reply. I tried LibreOffice a couple of years ago; found it somewhat cumbersome & difficult to work with. Currently trying out WPSOffice, which is not free but not expensive, either, $30/yr., and so far it's working out, just a long learning curve to figure out the system. If this doesn't work, I'll take another look at LibreOffice.
