Can't get deleted photos to delete; I need space now!

Mid-2011, High Sierra on iMac. Desperately need space. Am deleting lots of unwanted photos but they won't go for days or weeks. Any way around this?

Clearing up Photos stored on Mac (and not iCloud) My Mac Air is getting old and I have little storage. It has become unusable because I have little storage left - things don't sync, can't update it, and so on. Photos is storing 40GB on my HD, and I don't want them to take any space. I have iCloud storage, everything should be pulled from the cloud. How do I do that? I don't want to turn off photos on my Mac, so I hope there is a solution. Thanks

Photos taking up space on iMac I have 13,000 photos on my M1 iMac and they are taking up 125GB of space. My wife has 29,000 photos on her MacBook Air, taking up 97GB of space. All photos are JPEG, and both of us have turned off Optimise Mac Storage. Is there something wrong with my iMac?

After you delete, empty trash (if you delete in finder) or Recently Deleted in photos to permanently delete the item(s).
