How can I sync ipod Nano 6 with itunes

Itunes recognizes the device and lets me play content from the Nano on my Windows PC but it won't let me move content into itunes or delete unwanted content.

Your choice of words; move and sync suggests to me that you are trying to drag songs onto your iPod but it is set to Sync with iTunes, in which case you cannot "move", or drag and drop the songs.

Check the iPod's settings:

  • tap the iPod icon at the top of the iTunes window:

  • that will display the Device/Settings/Summary pane
  • is the Manually manage songs and videos box ticked (checked)? Don't change it at this time
  • switch to the Device/Settings/Music pane (1.) in the screenshot below
  • is the Sync Music button ticked (2.) (checked)? Don't change it at this time

This is the final result. I found a YouTube video from 13 years ago about restoring the iTunes library from a device.

My Nano shows up in file explorer as an external drive. I created a new folder on my desktop, dragged all the music files from the Nano into that file and then dragged them all into iTunes. I have since been able to edit and create playlists. The sync function works well. I am all set. I thank you again for your help. I would not have gotten to this point without you.

None of those points is true.

While the writing is on the wall as far as iTunes is concerned (and Apple can't really object to my saying that at this point in time, since its replacements are now available for Windows), it is still in use and its last update was 15th December 2023.

Thank you for your suggestions. I tried them all, only to find out iTunes is no longer supported. I downloaded the Apple device app which allowed me to see what was on the iPod. I was able to delete content I no longer wanted. I read that iTunes only supports books and podcasts. So I downloaded the Apple music app and opened the Nano in File Explorer on my computer. I was able to drag and drop all the songs to that app but still cannot sync.

This leads me to believe i can no longer load new content on the Nano.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the information you provided above. I deleted all of the Apple apps and reinstalled iTunes. Following your previous instructions, I clicked on the iPod icon. Manually manage music and videos is checked. I then went to item # 2 above. Here is a screenshot of what I see. Please let me know if this will let me restore my content to iTunes.
