I have footage saved on my iPad from a GoPro in 4K resolution. I don’t have Apple TV but do have the ability to select a video and airplay it to my tv direct but I assume this isn’t 4K resolution - is that the case?
If not is there another way for me to view my 4K footage on my TV ?

AirPlay to your TV won't necessarily be able to mirror at 4K.
Have you considered simply connecting your GoPro camera to your TV using an HDMI cable? Many GoPro cameras have a miniHDMI port - and will output full-resolution video to a connected TV/monitor.

If your devices meet the above requirements, you should be able to see your 4K video.
