Playing/editing MP4 (created by Samsung Galaxy Phone) on MacBook Pro M2 Max w/Sonoma 14.3.1

I have been a doing heavy video editing/creating for a very long time and I finally broke down and decided to purchased my first ever Apple device a MacBook Pro M2 Max currently running Sonoma 14.3.1.

The issue I'm having is that I cannot play or edit any MP4 created on Android phones on this Mac

I have tried using Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, iMovie, QuickTime, etc.... with no luck. I've searched for answers and most seen to imply I need to convert the file using 3rd party sw. I find it hard to believe the top-of-the-line video editing hw/sw beast would not be able to handle the most seemingly basic of video files.

Any advice for a newb to the Apple universe or do I need to dust off the old PC?

Thanks in advance! - Ronen

It uses the Google VP9 codec that's not supported. Handbrake can convert the file to H.264 or H.265.
