Unable to block contacts(Spam messages) in email on iPad

I get 30 to 40 spam messages a day, and I block the contacts when I can. Sometimes I will get the exact same type of message from multiple “fake” email addresses. When I go to block the contact, a small red circle appears next to the address information at the top of the email message, indicating the contact is blocked. Then, if I click on the address again, the contact info is changed back to “unblock contact.” So far so good.

However, there are some contacts that will not let me block them. I click on the address, then “block contact,” and the title changes to “unblock contact.” When I return to the email message, however, I do not see the small red circle next to the address information. Then, if I click on the email address, the contact info is changed back to “block contact.” Blocking the contact failed.

Why am I not able to block some email addresses? Is there something about the address that prevents blocking? Many of these messages are also phishing or scams, so I try to block as many as I can.

It seems like you're experiencing issues with blocking certain email addresses on your iPad. Unfortunately, the behavior you're describing could be due to various factors, including how the email service handles blocking contacts or potential limitations in the iPadOS Mail app.

One possible explanation is that the email addresses you're trying to block may be using techniques to change or disguise their sender information, making it difficult for the blocking feature to identify and effectively block them.

To address this issue, you can try a few troubleshooting steps:

1. Update iPadOS: Make sure your iPad is running the latest version of iPadOS. Sometimes, software updates include fixes for issues related to blocking contacts or handling spam messages.

2. Check Email Provider Settings: Verify if there are any specific settings or options within your email provider's settings that could help with blocking spam or unwanted emails. Some email services offer advanced spam filtering options that can be configured to block certain types of messages.

3. Use Filters: Explore if your email service allows you to set up filters or rules to automatically redirect or delete incoming emails based on specific criteria, such as sender address or keywords in the subject line.

4. Contact Email Provider: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to your email service provider's support team for assistance. They may be able to provide insights or suggestions specific to their email platform.

5. Report Spam: In addition to blocking individual email addresses, make sure to report spam messages to your email provider. This helps improve their spam detection algorithms and reduces the likelihood of similar messages reaching your inbox in the future.

While these steps may help mitigate the issue, it's important to note that blocking email addresses can sometimes be challenging due to the nature of email communication and potential variations in sender information. If you continue to experience difficulties, contacting your email provider's support team would be the best course of action for further assistance.
